General Afterschool provides a safe and happy place for students to engage in constructive activities and socialize with peers. This environment draws similarities to the Montessori classroom and children have opportunities to pursue art projects, games and stories as well as outdoor play when weather and schedule allows. A light, healthy snack is served.


MONDAY

Artists’ Workshop
Mon or Wed | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Art Instructor Sue Rodwan
Cost: $145 (Mon) or $174 (Wed)
Artists’ Workshop is a popular staple of Afterschool activities and a lively environment for all manner of artistic expressions. Students use paint, fabric, feathers, wood and more to explore their inspired endeavors. Sue provides guidance and skill development, and the young artists lead the way.

Little Kickers
Mon | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Art Instructor and Certified Yoga Instructor Moriah Garrity
Cost: $188
From kickball to soccer and everything in between, little kickers on the move will love this active and engaging afterschool activity. Students will work on their coordination through dribbling and passing the ball, and shooting on goal. Moriah has a background in soccer and is excited to share her experience with students!

Ballet 3-6
Mon | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Faculty Kate Bippes
Cost: $188
Kate brings years of classroom and ballet instruction to the dance room. Students take first steps into exploring classical ballet technique from developing fundamental skills using the five positions to simple barre exercises. Students are encouraged to have fun and express themselves through movement.

Storytelling through Drama

Cost: $188
Join Darcy for an exciting and imaginative acting class! Each week, little actors will listen to a dramatic storybook, fairytale, or folktale, and then have the opportunity to act out their favorite scenes and characters. They will use their imaginations and teamwork skills to create new storylines and characters as well.

Introductory Ceramics

Under Sue’s guidance, children take exciting first steps towards developing interest and experience with ceramic clay. Students are introduced to a variety of handbuilding methods in an environment of low stress and high fun. New and returning students are welcome.

BrainDance
Tues or Fri | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: Former NNM Dance Instructor Amanda MacDonald
Cost: $188
Pairing her experience with developmental movement and the Alexander Technique with the methods of celebrated dance educator Anne Green Gilbert, creator of the BrainDance, Amanda provides a class full of music, movement and fun. Students wiggle and giggle, sing and squirm, while having a multi-sensory experience that promotes brain development, academic learning, sensory regulation, social-emotional growth and coordination.

Primary Swim 1
Tues or Fri | 3:30-4:30pm (ages 4+)
Instructor: NNM Aquatics Coordinator Shawnee Ardies-Morales
Cost: $209
This course is an orientation to water and intended to help children develop good attitudes and safe practices in the pool. Instruction emphasizes comfort, confidence and building skills through play and guided practice. Instructors teach safety topics and aquatic fundamentals including water entry/exit, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, retrieving objects, back/front float, front/back glides and swimming with life jackets.

Primary Swim 2
Tues or Fri | 3:30-4:30pm (ages 4+)
Instructor: NNM Aquatics Coordinator Shawnee Ardies-Morales
Cost: $209
For students who have mastered Primary Swim 1, Primary Swim 2 revisits basic skills through guided practice and promotes increasing independence. Skills covered include water entry/exit, bobbing, retrieving objects, front/back floats, front/back glides, swimming on front and back (alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions), changing direction/position and swimming with life jackets. Participation requires approval of the Aquatics Coordinator.

Little Chefs
Tues or Fri | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Assistant Rachel Montes
Cost: $250 (Includes material costs)
Those who love stirring, whisking and having fun with measurements will love this class! NNM Assistant Rachel Montes will share her passion for cooking and eating with all of our little chefs. Children will put on their mini chef hats and whip up something healthy and tasty every week.

Ignite your imagination with NNM Substitute Assistant Darcy Coussens! Together we will explore different stories and create our own through drama games, improvisation, and creative movement. Students will learn the basics of storytelling with their bodies and voices while becoming a supportive team. Caution: there may be some wacky characters and silliness along the way!

Fast Feet
Wed | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Athletics Instructor Jimmy Felton
Cost: $188
Every day is fast action in this high-energy class where Jimmy will introduce students to a variety of games that promote cooperative play, imagination and skill-building. Ball handling, running, balancing and endless adventures with games, both classic and new, make Fast Feet the ideal place for students on the move!

THURSDAY

Ballet 3-6 (NEW DAY)

Darcy is new to NNM, but not to the world of dance! With experience in creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop, this class will incorporate elements of all dance while still focusing on traditional ballet. Students will learn fundamentals, positions and barre exercises, all while having fun of course!

Puppet Making (NEW)
Thurs | 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: NNM Faculty Annie Stone
Cost: $188
In this class, little puppeteers will learn how give life to stories with the use of puppets, props and scenery. They will learn about the history of hand puppets, shadow puppets and look at plans for various styles of puppet theater. Students will make their own puppets, build sets, and practice puppet theater.

Tap Dance 1
Thur | 3:30-4:30pm (available to stay-uppers only)
Instructors: Former NNM Dance Instructor Amanda MacDonald
Cost: $174
This session, in addition to learning all the basic tap steps, students will be working on tapping to the spoken word. Using poetry and song lyrics, we’ll explore all the sounds a tap shoe can make to tell a story. Open to stay-uppers through 3rd graders.

Primary Swim 3

Instructor: NNM Aquatics Coordinator Shawnee Ardies-Morales
Cost: $208
Primary Swim 3 builds upon the aquatics fundamentals from Primary Swim 1 and 2 by providing guided practice at more proficient performance levels and at greater distances and times. Skills are performed independently at this level. Participants learn to improve coordination of arm and leg actions. Previous safety topics are discussed and new ones are introduced. Participation requires approval of the Aquatics Coordinator.
